FRANCE: Food Security, 0.75
France has been considerably successful in pursuing its food security objectives at the 2009 L'Aquila Summit. Notably, the G8 has pledged to act on an improved global governance for food security through the implementation of the Global Partnership for Agriculture and Food Security by the end of 2009. Though this implies a considerably effective timeframe for the establishment of a global partnership on food security, the problem of managing essential foodstuffs is not tied in such a way. The G8 have thus only partially addressed this problem by stating that “the feasibility, effectiveness and administrative modalities of a system of stockholding in dealing with humanitarian food emergencies or as a means to limit price volatility need to be further explored.” Finally, the G8 have not discussed meeting the French objective of doubling production by 2050.
